A SHORT THEORY: ACCURACY AND PRECISION AS STRUCTURAL RATIOS

Accuracy and Precision are not psychological measures, nor properties of intelligence or knowledge.
They are geometric relationships between two spaces:

- Reality — what actually exists
- Representation — what is claimed, expressed, or modeled

Both are measured through their intersection.

ACCURACY — RELATION TO REALITY

Accuracy measures coverage.

Formula:
Accuracy = |Representation ∩ Reality| / |Reality|

It asks:
Of everything that is true, how much entered the representation?

This is an external measure:
- the reference point is Reality
- its failure mode is omission
- it is penalized for missing context

High accuracy means:
the representation is located in the correct region of reality.

PRECISION — RELATION TO REPRESENTATION

Precision measures purity.

Formula:
Precision = |Representation ∩ Reality| / |Representation|

It asks:
Of everything that was said, how much actually belongs to reality?

This is an internal measure:
- the reference point is the representation itself
- its failure mode is noise
- it is penalized for unnecessary additions

High precision means:
the representation is disciplined and contained.

THEIR INDEPENDENCE

Accuracy and Precision are independent dimensions.

It is possible to:
- cover all of reality while adding a great deal of noise
- be perfectly clean while missing what matters

This is why they must be measured separately.

WHY THE INTERSECTION IS IN THE NUMERATOR

In both equations, the numerator is identical:

|Representation ∩ Reality|

Because both measures quantify the same thing:
what is actually correct.

The difference lies entirely in the denominator:
- Reality → measures omission
- Representation → measures noise

This single structural difference produces two distinct dimensions.
